Population

The population of Feniz counts (numbers from January 302, numbers in brackets from April 300 census) about 1.2 million (560,000) inhabitants of Fenizabad, about another 6 (6.5) million of various settled and nomadic peoples in Al'Jumu-Ria (North Feniz), 8 million in Mokra, and 9 million in Sukha, 24 million all in all

The population of the capital, Fenizabad, which in 298 comprised 190,000 inhabitants, grew by another 190,000 refugees from the Green March, while up to now, yearly 90,000 persons immigrated from the rural regions in the course of the recent economic development; and this immigration is going on (mid 307: 2.7 million).

Ethnography - under revision

(see also History and Tribes pages)

Ethnologists have been carrying out a vast research on the ethnic roots of the various groups of the Fenizic people. According to their results, the actual Fenizic population stems from different origins, autochtone as well as imigrant:

The earliest population having inhabited parts of modern Feniz is the Fenis clan having come from Mystgallia (modern Cruisiana) before the 5th millennium BP. (from the Cruisana homepage, © 1999 Edward Mooney, Jr.)

The Five Kingdoms before the EmpireThe oldest population historically proven for the northern territory consisted of two main tribes, the Empapas or Empapadus which erected the Kingdom of Micholerdia (red) and the Lambuças or Lambuzadis which formed the Kingdom of Burburreica (white) before 2500 BP.

The Empapadu people of the Zebornati lived in the greater coastal region of modern Feniz [or in the coastal region north of Feniz? André?], the Lambuzadi people of the Pralistani occupied the inner desertuous region.

Migrations after the PlagueFollowing the Plague which virtually erased the Zebornati and considerably diminished the Pralistani (olive on the right chart), an expedition of Iparalaspuquis (from southern Armatirion) accosted the beaches and was granted the Zebornati land and a part of the Pralistani land to settle (see yellow arrow). (Estontetso homepage, including maps, © 1999 André Serranho)

Under Phenixian rule, the northern peoples came to be culturally united; the I'Para Lass-Puki had definitely taken over the role of lead culture in the "Northern Phenixian ethnic group". (cf. former Phoenicia homepage, © 1999 Alberto Stolfi)

This group now consists of

under revision
  1. the Iparalaspuquis (olive and hatched olive), settled all over the coastal region,
  2. relics of the Zebornati (light olive), settled in the jungle of the northern coastal region,
  3. the Fenis (yellow), those living in the desert being partially nomadic, and
  4. the partially nomadic Pralistanis, centered in the south-western mountains (turquiose) and dominating the desert region (white hatched turquiose)

By way of integration of the former Hochlandia, two new groups have been integrated into Feniz, namely

  1. the "Kralian" Lumattans or Faeniccians in the rural areas of Mokra, interspersed with Phenixian towns - the old Liliani colonies -
  2. more Lumattans in Sukha while
  3. the Fränkisch Gardlies concentrate in the region of Bojarka in southeastern Sukha.

The tribal structure follows this scheme and is even respected by the constitution.

Languages

The Fenizic language is spoken by everybody in Al'Jumu-Ria, written by many. It has developed from the original language of the I'Para Lass-Puki (Rimlahn) from which it takes the script, and has incorporated a lot of Ingallish terms and, especially in southern Al'Jumu-Ria, Gardlian vacabulary used by the Fenis.

Most people understand Ingallish, a lot of people speak it quite well, some are able to write it. In both Mokra and Sukha, Hoch (Lumattan) is spoken as colloquial and administrative language. In Mokra, Hoch is the language of the rural region while Phenixian is largely spoken in the cities. In Sukha, especially in the region of Bojarka, Fränkisch (Gardlian) is the second main language.

Religion

Most people in Al'Jumu-Ria are of Mounist belief, also brought to the country by the I'Para Lass-Puki.

His Holiness the Caliph Neer'Too-GottMounist leader is His Holiness the Caliph Neer'Too-Gott. He claims to be the Mounist leader of the whole Vexillium, a claim not undisputed throughout the Mounist leaders of other states. Nevertheless, he tries to establish connections to other Mounist states, especially the Moun Republic, ending up with a Mounist Vexillium Congress in January, 301.

The Holy Book of Moun (''Ed'Moun-i'') is being preserved at the New Mosque, Fenizabad. Parts of it have been published.

Every year, a month of religious worship and meditation called "Urlaub" is proclaimed by the Caliph. During the Urlaub period, all public activities come to a standstill.

His Holiness the Mahalama of the Cult Of The PhoenixThe Cult of the Phoenix was temporarily banned on 27. April 300. The refusal by the Phoenix Golf Club to change their name caused a continous tension between the influent club members and the Caliph.

By defining and publishing their Basic Truths, the Cultists regained general and official acceptance on Cruismas 302, under the leadership of their Mahalama.

In South Feniz, the people mostly belong to the Cruisian oriented Zbirna Solianka. The religious leadership resides with the Popydrom (High Council of Clergy). In Memoriam!Flag of the ArchbishopThe Sheikdom of Fenis is completely Cruisian as are parts of northern Mokra which has been part of the Reign of Fenia. They are led by Archbishop Ian Paul who resides in Odesiuky (Emirate of Mokra). His jurisdiction comprises all Feniz. He is closely related to the Church of Cruisana. The Archbishoprick was founded on 6th January 1295, 1600 years ago.
