The Government

As an absolute monarchy, Phoenix Town is governed by one man: King Sabin of Scorpio. With the aid of a Council of Advisors, the King is in charge of everything, from the economy to military actions.

Democracy is certainly not welcome in Phoenix Town, and all democratic rights have been suspended. Political parties are outlawed and political participation is not encouraged. Even so, the Government of Phoenix Town is not an oppressive one. Protesting and demonstrations against the King are allowed, but nobody has ever pronounced one word of discontent to the King and his Government. Although the King is quite pompous and excentric, he is a wise ruler.

History

Phoenicia used to be known as Northern Phenixia. Located on the equator, Northern Phenixia is mostly an ultra-arid desert covered with sand dunes and scorched wastelands. With a few oases sporadically placed here and there, Northern Phoenicia was the home of various nomadic desert peoples.

At one point, Northern Phenixia was annexed by the neighbouring nation of Estontetso, which mercilessly explored the region's natural resources, such as petroleum and iron.

When the Kingdom of Estontetso desintegrated, Northern Phenixia was at last free, but not for long. It was occupied successively by various international forces, until it was annexed by its southern neighbour, Phenixia.

Northern Phenixia prospered under Phenixian rule. The local desert peoples formed autonomous states, and peace was here to stay. Under such circumstances of prosperity and cooperation, most of the desert peoples came to be culturally united, and a "Northern Phenixian" ethnic group was born. In the Green March, Northern Phenixia gained autonomy from Phenixia, peacefully brought about by demonstratators.

Unfortunately, this did not last long for Phenixia was desintegrating too. Internal disputes among the various ethnic groups led to this, and Phenixia was split into several parts. Northern Phenixia attained full independence, but there was no leadership or political unity.

No leadership, that is, until a certain Sabin of Scorpio came along. Sabin had been soldier of the Phenixian Army and was currently studying to become a priest of the Cult of the Phoenix. Seeing his people stranded with no unity at all, Sabin organised them up, and helped his people build a city, which he named Phoenix Town (originality never was one of his better qualities). Thus he became King Sabin I.

King Sabin is an ambitious man. He wished his people would stop being exploited and start exploiting others. Therefore he set up an economy based on mercantilistic trade policies. Right now Phoenix Town is trying to aquire overseas colonies in order to set up the Phoenix Empire.

Diplomacy

Phoenicia seeks peaceful relations with all states. Furthermore, we are looking for anybody interested in selling pieces of territory for our overseas colonies and plantations. I'm sure we can make a deal that will be profitable for both sides. If you're interested, contact the Overseas Department
