South of Nowo Aidar we come to a small hamlet consisting of only a few farm cottages. We take a little rest here and I lie down on the grass to rest a bit. Here I must have lost my little leather pouch in which I kept a Marian medal that Trude, my Juist holiday companion, had given me. [3]
The reconnaissance patrol operations are discontinued. I am back again with the company.

The pay book page is confusing and contradicts the diary p. 108 "we front-line fighters don’t [have the Ostmedaille] yet" as well as p. 109 "permission to wear the Ostmedaille is issued to me". The entry in the pay book was obviously backdated, perhaps due to an award list of the regiment. This could also explain why the entry reads "Ostmedaille I.R.477". The medal was handed over and the document drawn up later, only on 21 Aug 1943
