The marching rations have been issued. The battalion will be ready to march this evening. The departure is planned for tomorrow morning when the wagons are provided. For safety's sake, however, curfew has already been ordered in case the transport train arrives earlier.
Among the soldiers were many who had let their wives come here. As often as duty allowed, I had always given them night leave with the condition that they state their whereabouts. Now they came again with the request for leave for this last night. I let them go despite the risk that I wouldn't be able to get them all together in time if, contrary to expectations, the train wanted to leave at night. We could take their luggage to the station and direct them to the station by runners. But before we set off, we fall in and check completeness. Should I submit a false strength report? I feel a bit uneasy, but I took the risk. And the next morning they were all there again.
