We are on our way back to Cammin. We leave the train in Stettin to continue our journey by boat. We still have some time before the boat leaves, so we go into the city to buy some bread rolls. “City?” The city is almost a pile of rubble. Entire streets lie in ruins. Finally, we find a half-destroyed house amidst the ruins, where the bakery is located. We run back to the jetty with the bread rolls we have bought. The journey down the Oder is marvellous. A warm summer’s day lies over the glistening river. Gradually the banks recede further and further, and soon we are rushing through the wide expanse of the Szczecin Lagoon. In Wollin the ship berths once more. Then we steer into the Dziwna channel and reach the Kamień Lagoon towards evening and moor at the jetty of Cammin. The joy of the beautiful journey was only spoilt by the fact that Carola was suffering from a terrible migraine.

Acc. to the timetable 1944, service 51, they must have left Berlin at 8:05 and arrived at Stettin at 10.11; the boat ran on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only (the 7th was a Friday) and acc. to its timetable, service 1003 (shown above), left Stettin at 11.15, Wollin at 14.45, and arrived ca. 17.00 in Cammin.
