8.4.41. Rumor has it that we’ll be deployed. In the area of Uman, several Soviet divisions have been encircled, whose destruction we should be called upon. In fact, we turn north and reach the village Orlowo in the evening. Hardly in the quarter, I get the orders for the next day: "... Fahrzeugstaffel I ... Fahrzeugstaffel II ...". This is the grouping of the baggage for combat readiness. Combat train, ammo train, kitchen train. Now I know. I give the necessary orders for my train and I want to lie down to get some sleep. The company commander comes in again and complains about the inadequate feeding of the horses. He scolds terribly and orders me to go personally to fetch food. So I accompany the driver on the meadow, let mow grassland, where the bright moon helps us, and then return to the quarters with heavily loaded vehicle. Midnight is over now.
