|Cdr I.R. 477: Col Taeglichsbeck|
At midnight, the battalion starts moving towards the regiment's meeting point. The night is black. It is raining cats and dogs. The water is running down the neck and into the riding boots. We are wet and freezing. But it's bothering us little. The exciting uncertainty of what is to come keeps officers and troops upright. A spirit of adventure has awakened, and the only topic of conversation is conjecture about our destination and our tasks. The new day has dawned. The regiment is still marching in pouring rain. Small rills are running over the yellow, stony paths. At one point a brook has overflowed its banks and is impeding our advance. Here the regiment commander, Colonel Taeglichsbeck, stands dripping wet and silent, watching how the columns overcome the bottleneck. We march until noon. Then the regiment suddenly turns around and marches back. Only when we approach the Jasło area again do we learn that the whole affair was just a training alert and a practice march under aggravated conditions.
