My fracture has now healed sufficiently for me to leave the military hospital for the seriously injured. That's why I've been thinking for days about where I can be transferred to. An enquiry in Köpenick[1] shows that the military hospital there is full. So I agreed with the administrative nurse that she would simply send me to Berlin. I would look for a military hospital there. First I go to my parents in Friedrichshagen.[2] I press the bell button downstairs at the garden door, and shortly afterwards my mother appears up at the window. I see a ray of joy flit across her face when she sees me again so unexpectedly. Then she comes down and opens the door. In the stairwell, I take my stick, which I was still limping on in the street, over my shoulder like a rifle and walk up the stairs without support.
