Today I was in Woltersdorf, but the military hospital there is also filled to capacity. I was surprised by an air raid alarm and had to sit in the air raid shelter for over an hour.[1] Before travelling home, I pay a quick visit to the Knop family. Ruth is not at home.
Early April 1944[2]: My brother Joachim as Wachtmeister (sergeant)
I’m sitting in the living room with my parents when the doorbell rings. My father goes downstairs to answer it and comes back up with someone. When my mother and I look up, my brother Joachim is standing in the doorway. For the second time during this war, he happens to be on leave at the same time as me. This is particularly pleasing this time, because he can attend my wedding.[3]
