On the last evening, we had arranged to meet the girls again in a café. I had something to buy beforehand and wanted to join them. When I want to go there, I can't remember the name of the café. I rack my brain, walk through several cafés on the Champs-Élyssées, but I can't find it. By now it was time to go to the station if I didn't want to miss the train. I go to the platform - there they all three are standing. I'm afraid no one believed my explanation. It was embarrassing and annoying. I then offered Gawletta 20 marks as a contribution towards expenses, which he took after a moment's hesitation. After all, he had had to pay the bill for three people on his own.
During the train ride, Gawletta tells me that he misses his nail clippers and asks if I might have packed them. I answer in the negative. I hope he believes me at least this one. In any case, this trip was a "lasting memory". On some days, everything goes pear-shaped.
