12 Oct 48. The Russian gives suits, shoes and socks for good work performance. But at the next frisking he takes them away again!
On a meadow in the eastern outskirts of the city, where a two-storey house already stands, we are to lay the foundations for another house. When we arrived, the Russian nachalnik had already marked the 4 corners that indicate the footprint of the house. My brigade now starts to dig the ground at these 4 corners, about 1 1/2 m deep. A few days later we start to fill in these pits with a mixture of cement and bricks. Of course, the cement is once again far too scarce and we have to "stretch" the mixture by adding more and more bricks. I am not at all comfortable with this, but the nachalnik encourages me and throws in more and more bricks himself. Finally the pit is full and the surface is smoothed with a layer of cement. The foundation is finished. Tomorrow it's the next corner's turn. Dear God, let me be in Germany when this house collapses.
Next to our construction site is a magazine. It's on the road, a sandy path. I go in to buy something. Inside there are two Jews talking in Yiddish. But when I enter, they fall silent.
One problem on this site was the toilet. It was the usual board shack with several seat holes and stood at the end of the lot. It belonged to the already finished residential building. Unfortunately, this toilet was unusable because it was filled to the brim. Therefore, the users had started to sit next to the cabin. But soon the surrounding area was also covered, and this area spread further and further towards the residential house. Therefore, in the meantime, people had placed bricks between the piles in order to reach the vicinity of the loo on these stepping stones. An interesting parallel to the director's loo in Smolensk. It's just that the water pipes are often missing. - 16 years later I hear from Crimea tourists who complained about the same unhygienic conditions in Crimean bathing resorts.
Our 6-man brigade was withdrawn from this construction site before the foundations were finished.
We hear on the radio: Germany in the World Trade Union Confederation! "6 Million Join Hands As Brothers!"[1] And here we are beaten, insulted as fascists and retained in captivity.
